5月5日 Patent op breakpoints toegestaan. WTF? Ik laat het artikel voor zich spreken: An anonymous reader noted that apparently Breakpoints have now been patented. From the link "A method for debugging including the steps of receiving code having a software breakpoint function therein, running the code for the purpose of debugging, monitoring the code to detect the presence of the software breakpoint function, recognizing the software breakpoint function, determining an action to be performed based on the software breakpoint function, and implementing the action. The present invention also includes an apparatus for implementing the method for debugging and a medium embodying a program of instructions for execution by a device to perform the method for debugging."

Full Story: Tweakers.net 7月15日 Dell en Alienware ontwikkelen.... iets....![]() Now this is exactly what we had in mind when we first heard about Dell absorbing gaming-rig maker Alienware: some seriously house-rocking new designs for desktop PCs. This baby, called the XCS, comes from Matthew Ritter, and resembles… ah, well, we're not sure what it resembles, but whatever it is, it's mad cool and future-y. And we want one — not just for the killer looks, but also the E-Z swappable hard drives (those are the things in the bottom right), which we have to admit kind of propel the XCS deeper into the realm of fiction. There's no data on specs of this beautiful creature; in fact, Dell hasn't even confirmed it will make it. Producing such a groundbreaking design, even minus the modular hard-drive stuff, might be too out of character for Dell, but here's hoping they see the light… the cool blue glowing light.

Though a scheme for the dense arrangement and addressing of these nanowires remains to be developed, such an approach would enable a storage density of more than 100,000 terabits per cubic centimeter. If this memory density can be realized commercially, a device the size of an iPod nano could hold enough MP3 music to play for 300,000 years without repeating a song or enough DVD quality video to play movies for 10,000 years without repetition.”
Like I said... awesome... 4月21日 9 reasons why Vista should be free of charge What if Microsoft released Vista for free? It is extremely unlikely, but there are some good reasons to do so:1. Microsoft is currently in the middle of a long struggle with Linux for control of both the server and desktop arenas. While Microsoft still dominates in this area, there has been some gains for Linux and other open source software. One of the greatest reasons many companies are switching to Linux - whether one desktop or server is not because of distinct performance improvements but rather because of an (at least perceived) lower total cost of ownership (TCO). 2. Microsoft could continue to require Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) to pay for the software (an end-user only free license) which would allow them to generate significant revenue even while giving the software away free. 3. Microsoft could only release the lower and mid-range versions of the product for free, with relatively minor upgrade fees to move up to the more full-featured versions. This would encourage individuals to become involved with the product and as they became familiar with it they could upgrade further. 4. Microsoft could combat Apple successfully on the multimedia front by offering a free Vista Media OS in conjunction with OEMs that would be very attractive to the end-consumer at a reduced price. 5. This would not be out of line with the way Microsoft has been doing business lately with its release of the Express editions as well as its recent release for free download of Virtual Server 2005 R2. 6. Microsoft has significant cash reservoirs which along with its enterprise products could carry it through the loss of inflowing cash from Vista sales. 7. Microsoft could include more ad based products with Vista without as many complaints from consumers. For example, bundled internet, advertising on Windows startup screen. 8. Microsoft could continue to increase revenue by encouraging individuals to focus on value-add products rather than the core OS - for example Windows Defender and Windows OneCare. 9. Microsoft has done this before on a lesser scale with Netscape and did so successfully (until Mozilla came out of the blue). 3月14日 Vista verwacht in november?
5x Vista. Voor elk wat wils...Microsoft Corp. today announced the product lineup of its upcoming Windows Vista™ operating system. Scheduled for release later this year, the Microsoft® Windows Vista product lineup will bring clarity to customers’ digital world by helping them easily accomplish everyday tasks, instantly find what they want, enjoy the latest in entertainment, improve the safety of their personal information, stay connected at home or on the go, and help ensure PCs are up-to-date, more secure and running smoothly.
Microsoft also will offer Windows Vista Starter in emerging markets. Windows Vista Starter is designed to empower families and entry-level PC users in these markets to experience the world of social and educational benefits that personal computer technology and the Internet makes possible. A 32-bit operating system designed specifically for lower-cost computers, Windows Vista Starter enables popular beginner PC activities and provides an easy-to-use and more affordable entry point to the Windows Vista family of products. All versions of Windows Vista are scheduled to be broadly available in the second half of 2006. 2月23日 Video sites blamed for web-traffic crisisCNET News have published an article documenting how the recent explosion in online video sites has experts worried and searching for more efficient technology to deliver the goods.
Sites such as Google Video, YouTube and Apple's ever expanding collection of movie trailers are alledgedly putting excess strain on ISPs, as consumers strive to own faster internet connections. The popularity of voice over IP (VoIP) technology has also had an impact on ISPs who are now looking at ways of combating these "traffic jams". Peer-to-peer technology such as BitTorrent is largely untouched by online-content vendors, but ISPs such as NTL are trialing the effectiveness of Bram Cohen's filesharing platform. As reported in February, Warner Bros. are also taking P2P technology onboard. The need for more efficent technology breeds new companies, one of which is Itiva. Led by ex-HP and ex-Apple exec Michael Billard, the company aim to deliver HD content using their new patented Quantum Streaming technology. According to their website: "By breaking content into quanta (pieces that are smaller than the average web page), Itiva takes advantage of readily available, lower cost bandwidth worldwide." 2月22日 's Werelds grootste error messageLeuk souvenir voor de touristen:
We went down to New York for the long weekend. Despite the 16-degree weather, we walked down to Times Square - all the bright lights lured us the ten blocks from our hotel. When we got there, we stood like, well, tourists, gaping at all the electronic billboards. And then, across the square, I saw it: the world's largest Windows error message - on a two-story high e-billboard (I guess everything really is bigger in New York). It was the only billboard in the entire square with absolutely no movement - since the PC running it had obviously frozen.
